OVERVIEW
Welcome to the fourth monthly report - series of reflections surrounding AUGURY HOUSE’s growth and developments as a production house. We are on track to finishing two short films and a screenplay for a feature by the end of the year - there is a lot to look forward to!
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
More progress has been made on an upcoming feature screenplay we’ve been working on! After 15 versions, Kevin is settling on a general structure he is looking to flesh out. It will still be a while before it’s finished, but drafts should be ready sometime next year! Also, Carissa has been getting a lot further in practicing her music skills and her ear is now trained to the point where she can easily transcribe melodies and chords. We look forward to putting this to use when it comes to scoring our films! On the ends of production, it turns out that Binh will be in town for longer so now we have much more time than anticipated to shoot our films. Things are looking up!
DIFFICULTIES
One difficulty has been looking for opportunities for funding. We’ve applied to one grant and have more that we have our eyes set on. In preparing for these applications, we have been revisiting our pitching materials and restructuring our application portfolios so it not only looks good for grants, but for other investment opportunities as well. It has taken some time to build these new documents and structures, but it is also a big plus for us as it becomes easier to get a sense of how we want our projects to flesh out.

We’ve been cutting together new trailers for our films! The trailer isn’t final by any means, but it is the first attempt in cutting video to music for the new upcoming short. Making the trailer was pretty refreshing as we had been looking at the longform short for so long that it is hard to get an objective eye on what we’re working on. The short trailer gives a new perspective to the work and it is interesting to see what is implied and where the mystery lies!

THINGS WE’RE LEARNING
We have been doing more research on the craft of screenwriting from studying screenplays, reading books and getting advice from GPT. One way Chat GPT has been helpful has been in developing word banks to aide in our writing. There is a list called “The Ultimate List of Acting Verbs” by Paul Kuritz which has been helpful, though the list is organized in alphabetical order so some words with similar meanings such as force and coerce are far apart from one another. With the help of GPT, we’ve been able to generate longer and more comprehensive lists of action words that are organized by meaning so it is much more practical and quicker to use when writing!
GOALS Our goals for November will be to finish shooting our third film, wrap up B roll for the second film, and get further in post production! We will still be quiet on the social media, but will be looking to build up our works so that December can be more oriented towards post production and prepping for release in early 2025.
